Netflix and Appian Way Productions are teaming for “Virunga,” an upcoming original documentary which Leonardo DiCaprio will executive produce.
Orlando von Einsiedel helms the investigative journalism meets nature documentary feature which follows a team of park rangers and the endangered mountain gorillas they protect in Africa’s oldest national park. The group comes under threat from deadly militia, dangerous poachers, and the unyielding greed of industry.
The film has scored a November 7th release date in theaters in New York and Los Angeles, and on Netflix in all territories where Netflix is available.
In an official statement, DiCaprio says: “Films like Virunga are powerful stories that are a window into the incredible cultural and natural diversity of our world, the forces that are threatening to destroy it, and the people who are fighting to protect it. Partnering with Netflix on this film is an exciting opportunity to inform and inspire individuals to engage on this topic.”
