DiCaprio, NatGeo Develop “Right Stuff” TV Series

Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way Productions banner are set to executive produce a new scripted series for National Geographic based on Tom Wolfe’s best-selling non-fiction 1979 book “The Right Stuff”.

Jennifer Davisson and Will Staples will both executive produce and write the scripted series about the U.S. fighter pilots who tested the early aircraft and rockets that would eventually become the foundation of the American space program – including the rise of the first Mercury astronauts.

The series will use the book as a starting point, and will tackle one mission each season – the first season starting at the height of the Cold War in 1958.

The property was previously adapted by filmmaker Philip Kaufman into the well-regarded 1983 feature starring Sam Shepard, Scott Glenn, Dennis Quaid, Ed Harris, Fred Ward and Barbara Hershey.
