A teaser trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s “Detroit” goes online tomorrow, and ahead of that the film’s distributor Annapurna Pictures has released a tease of that trailer through producer Megan Ellison’s social media account.
The project marks another re-teaming of Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal following their collaborations on “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty,” two works which led to fourteen Oscar nominations and seven wins between them.
The new film is set in 1967 and deals with a police raid in the titular city on an unlicensed bar in Detroit’s Near West Side. It escalated to the point of the National Guard being called in and one of the most destructive riots in U.S. history kicking off – a riot that ultimately killed 43 people, injured over 1,000, and destroyed 2,000 buildings.
John Boyega, Hannah Murray, John Krasinski and Anthony Mackie lead the cast of the film which opens August 4th.
