Legendary has reportedly begun work on a sequel to its live-action Pokemon movie “Detective Pikachu,” hiring Oren Uziel (“The Cloverfield Paradox,” “22 Jump Street”) to pen the script for a follow-up.

This marks a big sign of confidence for the studio three months before they and Warner Bros. Pictures opens the first film in cinemas on May 10th.

The story of that film revolves around a young man (Justice Smith) teaming up with the yellow-furred Pikachu (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) to find his father. Rob Letterman helms the project.

Uziel recently worked on Paramount’s live-action adaptation of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” video games along with the upcoming “Men in Black: International”.
