SPOILERS AHEAD FOR LAST SUNDAY’S “GAME OF THRONES” S4 E2 EPISODE “THE LION AND THE ROSE”.
With the second episode of the fourth season ending with a much-talked about death, those involved in the HBO fantasy series say they have no plans to rest on their laurels just yet.
Director Alex Graves helmed both last week and this coming Sunday’s episode and tells THR the upcoming episode will essentially serve to setup the rest of the season:
“Episode three is in part an aftermath episode, where you settle and everything takes a turn toward the second half of the season… Joffrey’s death is a beginning. Ned Stark’s death was not an end – it was a beginning. It’s when the show began. All the deaths are like that, and Joffrey’s is no different. Joffrey’s death affects the show through to the climax.”
Graves adds that the next episode also boasts “one of the best speeches in the series”.
HBO delayed this week’s featurettes for last Sunday’s episode and finally posted them online the other day. The network has also released an amusing “Joffrey tribute” video containing assembly of about the only 30 seconds of footage from the show where the king is spoken of or seen to be behaving like someone who is actually commendable.
