Details On The “Sly Cooper” Movie

Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment are betting big on film adaptations of Sony PlayStation’s cute critter platform video game series.

Not content with just a “Ratchet and Clank” movie, earlier this week they announced a film based on the “Sly Cooper” series about a master thief raccoon and his friends. The project is far enough along that a teaser trailer is already out which you can see below.

Now, speaking with Shack News, Blockade’s co-founder Brad Foxhoven revealed some more details about the project. Sucker Punch Productions, the company behind the “Sly Cooper” and “inFamous” game series, is said to have been “very supportive” in the process and provided both “creative guidance and feedback throughout.”

The film alters the look of the game characters and world, to give it a more deliberately computer animated look whilst remaining true to the game’s artistic style – namely its “combination between gritty film noir meets bright, colorful graphic novels.”

The movie will NOT be an origin story, the team already together when we meet them in the film. The focus will be on the trio of Sly, Bentley and Murray along with love interest Carmelita, villain Clockwerk and other characters which are being kept secret for now.

One of the big reasons for taking the CG animated route is that it’s a much easier transition for a video game to go that way. They also hope to avoid the pitfalls of most game-to-film adaptations so far: “The biggest mistake we see is when the film makers don’t include the game creators enough. It would be like excluding JK Rowling from Harry Potter. You need them involved, and helping guide the vision, and the overall authenticity of the film.”
