Following on from the photo reveals this morning, EW has more information about Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” movie with the latest dealing with “Hannibal” star Mads Mikkelsen who serves as the film’s villain.
The trade does confirm he’s the main antagonist to Benedict Cumberbatch’s surgeon-turned-sorcerer in the film. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige kicks off his comments by elaborating further on the nature of the film:
“We will take audiences through sort of a guide to the multiverse, other dimensions, and there are amazing things out there – wonders that are going to be hopefully visually extremely interesting and unique to this movie. But there are also very scary things in these other dimensions.”
The job of sorcerers is to protect humanity from those scary things, but there’s a split of opinion as to how to go about it – Mads’ sorcerer isn’t happy with the approach of Strange’s mentor The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton):
“Mads’ character is a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect. [He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through.”
Feige will NOT reveal the name of the character though, and executive producer Stephen Broussard adds: “I’ve seen lots of names thrown around. No one has quite picked the name that we’ve chosen for him. It would be fun to conceal that, if we can.”
“Doctor Strange” opens in November next year.
