Lucasfilm held their “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Comic Con panel earlier tonight, and while there was no trailer – there was a behind-the-scenes featurette which sported new footage from the film including a first look at Carrie Fisher returning to the role of Leia.
Other footage shown included more Millennium Falcon scenes, a red-tinted TIE fighter, Simon Pegg in a Stormtrooper outfit being cheeky, Stormtroopers getting blown up on a lava planet, and photos of flamethrower-armed Stormtroopers and a crashed TIE fighter.
During the panel, the practical creature from the production’s first set video scored a name – Bobbajo – and was brought out on stage along with much of the cast including the original trio of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.
Speaking about his return, Ford says: “I was very gratified when I read the script, because I read something that I thought was really remarkable. Well written, with some intriguing developments. So I was delighted to be involved.”
Domhnall Gleeson is playing a character named General Hux who runs the Starkiller base. He, along with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), make up the key villains of the film.
Oscar Isaac let slip that his character Poe Dameron’s backstory has direct ties to “Star Wars: A New Hope”.
Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the film’s third trailer will be released sometime this Fall, and not at D23 next month as some have speculated. Also confirmed was that “Star Wars: Rogue One” begins principal photography in three weeks and is not already underway as some reports last week suggested.
Finally, J. J. Abrams says there is a rough cut of the film completed, but there’s still a ton of post-production work to do.
