Universal Pictures and Illumination’s “Despicable Me 3” is reportedly eyeing an $83 million domestic box-office opening this weekend following its $29 million gross on Friday.
Should it hold up it will be the sixth highest opener of the year behind only “Beauty and the Beast,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” “Wonder Woman,” “Fate of the Furious,” and “Logan.” Internationally the film is soaring with a further $112 million looking likely by the end of tomorrow.
Also faring well is Edgar Wright’s critically acclaimed heist thriller “Baby Driver” which looks to take in around $19 million for the weekend following a $6 million haul on Friday – that would be a career-best opener for Wright.
“Transformers: The Last Knight” in its second weekend and “Wonder Woman” in its fifth are neck and neck for the third and fourth spots with both taking $4.5 million on Friday and likely to sit somewhere around $15 million each for the weekend.
Not faring so well was the Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler-led comedy “The House” which looks like it’ll end up either just over or under $10 million for the weekend after nabbing only $3.3 million on Friday.
