Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment are teaming for a combination live-action/CG-animated big screen adaptation of the popular manga “Pluto” reports Deadline.
Naoki Urasawa’s comic is essentially a reboot/reimagining of Osamu Tezuka’s popular Astro Boy creation. ‘Pluto’ updates it into a setting filled with gigantic robots and cybernetic humanoids and plays out as a suspenseful murder mystery following a Europol robot detective trying to solve the case of a string of robot and human deaths.
Over 8 million copies have been sold worldwide. Universal and Illumination were behind this past Summer’s strong animated film performer “Despicable Me”.
