Johnny Depp has been “aggressively courting” Rob Marshall to direct the remake of the 1934 classic “The Thin Man” for Warner Bros. Pictures according to Vulture.
Based on the Dashiell Hammett novel, the story follows a detective who quits his job to become an alcoholic “trophy husband” to the wealthy socialite he just married. The original film, which starred William Powell and Myrna Loy, generated five sequels and a TV series in the late 50’s.
Depp is eager to play the lead role of Nick Charles, and is developing the movie through his Infinitum Nihil company.
Depp’s championing of Marshall comes from an obvious impression the helmer has left on the actor while shooting “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” together this year.
No script or writer is attached at this moment. Marshall is expected to head into meetings at Universal about a film adaptation of the hit stage musical “Wicked” once his work on filming ‘Pirates’ is complete.
