James Franco has begun very early discussions to star in Sam Raimi’s “Oz: The Great and Powerful” at Disney Pictures says Heat Vision.
Robert Downey Jr. was originally attached to star before he left the project a few weeks ago. The offer then went out to Johnny Depp who had several meetings about the role and ultimately passed on it just the other day.
Franco would play an illusionist whose hot air balloon gets caught in a tornado where he is transported to the magical land of Oz. Franco previously worked with Raimi on the “Spider-Man” trilogy.
Raimi will direct from a script by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire. Shooting hopes to kick off in the second half of this year.
