Depardieu, Khan, Hussain Get A “Life”

Gerard Depardieu, Irrfan Khan and Adil Hussain have all joined the cast of Ang Lee’s film adaptation of Yann Martel’s Booker Prize-winning 2001 novel “Life of Pi” at Fox 2000 reports The Film Stage.

The coming-of-age story revolves around a youth (Suraj Sharma) who is the lone survivor of a sunken freighter and winds up sharing a lifeboat with a hyena, an injured zebra, an orangutan and a hungry Bengal tiger.

Depardieu will portray a chef, Khan is the adult version of Pi, Hussain will play Pi’s father while Tabu is still in talks for the role of Pi’s mother.

Lee (“Brokeback Mountain”) directs from a script by David Magee (“Finding Neverland”) and shooting kicks off early next year in Taiwan and India for release Xmas 2012.
