Producer Gil Netter (“The Blind Side,” “Marley and Me”) and Warner Bros. Pictures are teaming for yet another big screen reboot of the classic comic character “Dennis the Menace” according to The Tracking Board.
The report says the project has become a priority for the studio with producers currently on the hunt for a screenwriter. It does not indicate if it will be live-action or animated.
The property has been adapted to the screen several times most notably as the 1993 theatrical feature which starred Walter Matthau as Mr. Wilson. Numerous straight-to-DVD follow-ups have since been released with the most recent being “A Dennis the Menace Christmas” in 2007.
The property debuted as a syndicated newspaper strip in 1951 before becoming a TV sitcom in 1959 and an anfternoon cartoon in the late 1980s.
