Judi Dench, Sally Hawkins, Jamie Bell and Imogen Poots are all in negotiations to join the cast of the new adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre” for Ruby Films, BBC Films and Focus Features says Reuters.
The story follows a governess (Mia Wasikowska) who softens the heart of her notably older employer Edward Rochester (Michael Fassbender), but mysterious noises and attacks in the manor house hint at someone else residing there – a terrible secret kept locked away that on occasion manages to escape and wreak havoc.
Dench will play the manor’s housekeeper Mrs. Fairfax, Hawkins will play Eyre’s abusive aunt Mrs. Reed, and Bell would portray Eyre’s clergyman cousin.
Cary Fukunaga (“Sin Nombre”) is directing this less romanticised, more gothic adaptation of the novel which Moira Buffini adapted. Alison Owen and Paul Trijbits are producing.
