Last month came word that Benicio Del Toro was in early talks to play the villain of Rian Johnson’s upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VIII”. It looks like those talks have been fruitful as Del Toro himself told Entertainment Tonight last night that he’s confident it’s going to happen:
“I can’t tell you much about it but I think that it might happen. It looks like it’s gonna happen, so I’m very excited. I can’t talk too much about it. The script is hard to get. They told me they’d cut my finger if I talk about it… I saw the original one when it came out and it marked me. I was impressed by the film and by the characters and by the story and the message.”
Details of the new film, which will follow on directly from events in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” are essentially unknown at this point. Johnson is attached to both write and direct the film which will begin production in a few months ahead of a May 26th 2017 release.
Ram Bergman and Kathleen Kennedy will produce.
