Guillermo del Toro’s plans to do a “Justice League” style team-up of DC Entertainment’s supernatural characters is still in the works – just don’t expect it anytime soon.
Speaking with IGN, the filmmaker says they’ve laid the foundation for the film with both the characters and a screenplay are pretty much where he wants them to be. However, the main issue now is scheduling – something that may interfere with his chances to helm it:
“We turned in our [script] revision, and it all depends on the calendar, you know? If I can do it, I would love to do it. And I think that the screenplay and the characters are very solid.”
So it depends on the studio, and Warners demands to have it done may mean the filmmaker will have to step aside and only produce rather than direct. As the project hasn’t been officially announced by Warners though, there’s not an urgency at this point.
The film is expected to combine characters such as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, The Spectre, Deadman and Zatanna.
