Years of whispers, rumors and social media championing has come to a head this week and sadly Hellboy has lost the fight.
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro broke the news on Twitter that a third “Hellboy” film is officially dead. Not just for now, but for good. Del Toro said:
“Hellboy 3 Sorry to report: Spoke w all parties. Must report that 100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it.”
A few weeks ago Del Toro revealed he, “Hellboy” creator Mike Mignola and series star Ron Perlman were sitting down to talk about a third movie. Sadly it looks like the meeting didn’t yield anything.
Del Toro previously discussed his idea for the third film’s story, saying it was to involve Hellboy finally coming to terms with his destiny as the beast of the Apocalypse and having to become that to defend humanity against the coming of the Ogdru Jahad – in the process becoming a much darker being.
The news comes after the ending of the “Hellboy” comics themselves last year which offered a definitive conclusion to the saga. Del Toro is now turning his attention to his Cold War creature feature “The Shape of Water”.
