Universal Pictures has acquired a pitch for a new film adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s novel “The Secret Garden”.
The story follows an orphaned girl is sent to live with her reclusive uncle and discovers a hidden garden containing magical secrets. This version is tipped to take place in the American South at the turn of the 20th Century.
“Beasts of the Southern Wild” co-writer Lucy Alibar will pen the script and will work closely with producers Guillermo del Toro and Mark Johnson (“Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark”). del Toro’s schedule prevents him from directing.
Alfonso Cuaron (“Children of Men”) penned the last major film adaptation of the property twenty years ago.
