“Dear White People” writer/director Justin Simien is next set to write and direct “Bad Hair” for Sight Unseen.
The horror satire follows an ambitious young woman who gets a weave in order to survive the image obsessed world of music television and the rise of New Jack Swing in the late 1980s.
She soon discovers her new hair may have a mind of its own. Simien says the film will be: “both a love letter to black women and a critique of the cultural forces our society puts them through.”
Simien is in pre-production on the ten-episode second season of the TV series version of “Dear White People” to air in 2018.
