Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“The Good Wife,” “Watchmen”) will take on the iconic role of the villain Negan in AMC’s mega-rating zombie series “The Walking Dead”.
Following an extensive casting search, Morgan has scored the iconic role, a frequently swearing character who is considered the darkest and most evil of Robert Kirkman’s comic series to date.
Morgan’s character is first expected to arrive in the sixth season finale and is the violent leader of a group known as The Saviors who use force and intimidation to subjugate other communities.
Morgan reportedly beat out the likes of Timothy Olyphant, Matt Dillon and Garret Dillahunt for the role and will first join the series as a guest star before being promoted to series regular for season seven. Filming on the sixth season finale begins this week in Atlanta.
In the comics Negan has a baseball bat covered in barbed wire named ‘Lucille’ that he carries with him at all times and is still alive as of the current issues. The character has been teased before, most notably during the fifth season scene in which key characters visited the home of Noah (Tyler James Williams).
Morgan is no stranger to TV with key roles in the likes of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Supernatural,” “Extant” and this season of “The Good Wife”. He’ll be seen as Thomas Wayne in the upcoming “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”.
