Magnolia Pictures has picked up the North American distribution rights to Lars Von Trier’s new sci-fi drama “Melancholia” reports The Los Angeles Times.
Kirsten Dunst, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Alexander Skarsgard star in the story of two sisters who become increasingly more distant from each other and react very differently to the news that Earth is threatened by a collision with another planet.
No specific date has yet been set for the film’s release, the movie is currently in post-production and is expected to debut in Cannes in May.
Meanwhile, UK’s Optimum Releasing and Australia’s Village Roadshow are closing deals to distribute Madonna’s royal love affair tale “W.E.” reports Screen Daily.
The film juxtaposes a contemporary love affair and the romance between Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson.
Madonna gave a 35-minute presentation to buyers at the Berlin Film Market over the weekend.
