The biggest point of difference with “Deadpool” and other superhero films, one that was all the focus of this past weekend’s Comic Con reel for the movie, is that its R-rating allows it to get away with plenty of profanity, violence, and even a bit of sex.
This isn’t X or even NC-17 rated though so don’t expect to see Ryan Reynolds to whip out his non-metallic sword. However, the rating does allow for not just a fun scene set inside a strip club MC’d by Stan Lee, but according to the talent a rather steamy coupling montage as well:
Speaking with Cinema Blend ahead of their panel, Morena Baccarin revealed that her Vanessa and Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson share both an emotional and physical bond in the film:
“It’s an origin story for these characters, so you see them falling in love. You see them meeting each other for the first time and discovering that they’re kindred spirits. There’s this awesome sex montage, you see them love each other more and more.”
Reynolds, sitting next to her at the time, chimed in saying it’s a “very athletic” montage – a sentiment she agreed with. It also sounds like it happens fairly early on, likely before he straps on the costume with Baccarin saying Wade’s cancer diagnoses causes a rift between them:
“He sort of detaches from her because he wants to go through this cancer thing, and doesn’t want her to be witness to it. And it remains to be seen whether they’ll find each other again.”
The film ultimately has a big soft heart with the anti-hero being driven forward by his desire to eventually return to the woman he loves. “Deadpool” opens February 12th.
