“Deadpool” Makes The PGA Nominations

Often considered the best bellwether for the Best Picture race at the Oscars, The Producers Guild Awards announced its nominees today for its three honors – with the biggest surprise being the welcome inclusion of “Deadpool”.

The ten nominees for Best Film are: “Arrival,” “Deadpool,” “Fences,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Hell or High Water,” “Hidden Figures,” “La La Land,” “Lion,” “Manchester By the Sea,” “Moonlight”.

The nominees for Best Animated Film are: “Finding Dory,” “Kubo and the Two Strings,” “Moana,” “The Secret Life of Pets,” “Zootopia”, and for Best Documentary are: “Dancer,” “The Eagle Huntress,” “Life, Animated,” “O.J.: Made in America,” “Tower”.

With the exception of last year where “The Big Short” won the PGA and “Spotlight” scored the Oscar, the PGA and Oscar Best Picture winner have been the same for the past decade since 2007’s “No Country for Old Men”.

All 2017 Producers Guild Award winners will be announced on Saturday, January 28th 2017 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The Producers Guild will also present special honors to Tom Rothman, James L. Brooks, Irwin Winkler, Megan Ellison, and the feature film “Loving”.
