Production on the “Deadpool” sequel is expected to kick off later this year with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick currently at work getting the script into finished form.
Speaking with Collider this week, one thing they did confirm is that the sequel won’t get bigger characters from the X-Men universe popping up for cameos and explain why they’re going that route:
“You kinda don’t want a Ferrari in Deadpool unless it’s for a real purpose in the sense that Deadpool is a gritty, grimy, smaller thing, with characters you aren’t as familiar with. It’s a little bit like lovable losers. It’s not the A-list of superheroes, necessarily. … The occasional cameo or appearance by an A-list type person could be really funny and/or dramatic. So we have an eye open for those things, but we don’t want to just put people in it because we can now, if that makes sense.”
That doesn’t mean there can’t be new mutant characters though which this will certainly have. Along with both Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus from the first film, the follow-up is all about the inclusion of the fan-favorite time-traveling mutant Cable.
Casting is currently underway and Rob Liefeld, who created both Deadpool and Cable, recently tweeted: “Here’s what I know. Cable is the hottest role in Hollywood. The line goes out the door and off the lot. Believe it!”.
Deadpool himself, actor Ryan Reynolds, got tongues wagging earlier this week when he posted a photo of himself, Hugh Jackman and Pierce Brosnan together on a couch – leading to speculation of Brosnan’s casting in the role and works of fan art such as Bosslogic‘s for the picture above.
