Daniel Day-Lewis is in talks to star in The Weinstein Company’s musical “Nine” says Variety.
Day-Lewis will replace fellow 2008 Oscar-winner Javier Bardem in the role of Guido Contini, a famous film director who experiences personal and creative crisis while trying to balance all the women in his life.
Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench will play the women. Michael Tolkin adapted the screenplay from the original musical inspired by Fellini’s “8½”, whilst Anthony Minghella turned in a rewrite before he died.
Bardem left the production due to exhaustion. Rob Marshall helms the film which begins production this Fall.
