Davis, Nyong’o Team For “Woman King”

Viola Davis and Lupita Nyong’o are set to play mother and daughter in TriStar Pictures’ “The Woman King,” an inspired by true events film based on an original story by actress Maria Bello.

Set in the Kingdom of Dahomey, Africa in the 18th century, Davis plays the general of the all-female military unit known as the Amazons.

She and her daughter (Nyong’o) together fought the French and neighbouring tribes who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for.

Davis, Bello, Cathy Schulman and Julius Tennon are producing.
