A new listing on Production Weekly indicates that a Vanilla Ice biopic called “To the Extreme” appears to be in the works, and even lists actor Dave Franco as a potential star.
The recent Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” has become the highest-grossing biopic of all time, the latest remake of “A Star is Born” is a critical and commercial smash, and the Elton John-themed “Rocket Man” is one of this year’s most anticipated films. In other words, music biopics are all the rage.
A project like this would not be a surprise. Robert Matthew Van Winkle was a Dallas high school dropout selling used cars who went on to become rapper Vanilla Ice who had the first hip-hop single to top the Billboard charts with “Ice Ice Baby”. His record-breaking debut album, which the movie is titled after, sold more than 15 million copies worldwide.
The listing indicates Chris Goodwin and Phil Van are on board to pen the screenplay, Dave Franco’s older brother James Franco is listed as a producer, and Ramona Films and Endeavor Content are listed as the companies on the project. However, it’s not listed as in active development.
