It’s about bloody time. After nearly a week of crappy quality bootlegs (and god knows how much money/time spent on cease & desist notices), at last it’s here in good quality – the first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises,” arguably the most widely anticipated film of 2012 (though you ‘Hobbit’ fanboys will no doubt disagree with that).
Less new footage is shown than the first “Batman Begins” teaser which consisted of clips from the early scenes set in Bhutan and the flashbacks with Bruce as a child. There’s more on offer though than “The Dark Knight” first teaser which was just an exploding logo with some voiceover.
Aside from some “Batman Begins” footage and voiceover at the start, the footage here swaps between Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) in a hospital bed, glimpses of Bruce Wayne, and a bit of graphics akin to the teaser poster. It’s really not much at all (it is a teaser though), saved mostly by the final money shot after the title of a hulking Bane approaching Batman – well that or Bats’ first time encountering a bodybuilding bear at a leather bar.
With both “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight”, the second teaser trailer hit mid-December of 2004 and 2007 respectively – around 6-7 months before their releases. ‘Rises’ will almost certainly follow the same schedule, especially as Warners has the perfect launching platform for it – its holiday tentpole “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” on December 16th.
