Daniel Craig has closed his deal to star in Sony Pictures planned Hollywood film adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s ‘Millennium’ novel trilogy starting with “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” reports Risky Biz Blog.
Craig would play Mikael Blomkvist, a divorced, middle-aged hard-nosed investigative reporter in Stockholm famous for his exposing corruption and scandal in business and government. He’s also co-publisher of the magazine Millennium and has had several lovers.
In ‘Tattoo’, Blomkvist loses a libel case and faces jail time. He’s then offered an assignment to investigate the 40-year-old disappearance of a industrialist’s niece on a remote island. His work alongside misunderstood rebellious female hacker Lisbeth Salander uncovers religious killings, Nazism, incest, child abuse and murder.
Michael Nyqvist played the role in the Swedish-language film adaptations of the trilogy released in Europe last year. Craig, currently filming DreamWorks sci-fi actioner “Cowboys & Aliens”, will segue into shooting ‘Tattoo’ in October.
David Fincher is on board to direct, Steve Zaillian will pen and Scott Rudin is producing.
