Damian Lewis To Play King Henry VIII

“Homeland” star Damian Lewis is in discussions to play Henry VIII in the six-part television adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Tudor-era novels “Wolf Hall” and “Bring Up the Bodies” for the BBC and PBS.

Mark Rylance has already been cast as Thomas Cromwell, the king’s Machiavellian counselor, in the project which Peter Kosminsky is directing. Peter Straughan (“Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”) adapted the script.

Mark Gatiss (“Sherlock”) is set for an unknown but significant role, while Claire Foy has been approached to play Anne Boleyn.

Lewis is said to be juggling this project with his commitment to Werner Herzog’s “Queen of the Desert” which is filming in Morocco.
