With the premiere slated for this week at the Venice Film Festival, Lionsgate’s Grindstone Entertainment label has scored North American distribution rights to Michael Almereyda’s unusual feature film adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Cymbeline”.
The story takes one of the Bard’s lesser known works and turns it into a story of an epic battle between dirty cops and a drug dealing biker gang, set in a corruption-riddled contemporary America. The film is being labelled a blend of “Sons of Anarchy” and Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo + Juliet”.
Ethan Hawke, Ed Harris, Milla Jovovich, John Leguizamo, Penn Badgley, Dakota Johnson, and Anton Yelchin star in the film which is currently targeting a Spring 2015 release. To celebrate the acquisition, Lionsgate has also released a new trailer.
