Appearing at the Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar last week, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski says that the studio’s upcoming sci-fi roleplaying video game “Cyberpunk 2077” is set to be one of the most ambitious games ever made.
In fact, he specifically goes as far as saying it will eclipse the company’s previous project, 2015’s “The Witcher 3,” which has been celebrated as one of the greatest games of the century with 251 Game of the Year awards and over 10 million units sold.
Kicinski says the plan with the long in development game is to be a new blockbuster franchise for the studio:
“Cyberpunk is our new Witcher 3, but even more ambitious. Our goal is to establish a new blockbuster franchise from the beginning. We work [in a] new universe, futuristic universe. We believe it’s very appealing to players, not only RPG players – but this is [a] true RPG, like Witcher, like Witcher 3, for mature audiences. It’s handcrafted, detailed, of course open-world, with open-ended gameplay.
Great game, more ambitious than Witcher 3, and we believe that we can aim [at] more ambitious business goals as well – of course, still having gamer-centric focus and quality focus as a main priority.”
Kicinski also re-affirmed that a fourth “The Witcher” game will never happen, saying: “We can’t create Witcher 4, because that was a trilogy from the beginning. No one said that one day we won’t decide to develop something in the Witcher universe. But now we’re focusing on Cyberpunk and Gwent.”
CD Projekt RED will be attending this year’s E3 in June with a big announcement about “Cyberpunk 2077” expected to be made during the event.
