The CW ended its DC Arrowverse crossover ‘Elseworlds’ late last year with the unprecedented announcement of their plans for Fall 2019’s version – an adaptation of the famed comic storyline “Crisis on Infinite Earths”.
Speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Thursday afternoon, CW president Mark Pedowitz vowed the event: “will be the biggest and most complicated [crossover yet].”
Could some characters from the likes of “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “Supergirl” die like they do in the comics? He says: “That is the intent, to take some big swings. Can’t tell you if it’ll follow the comic book version, but it’ll take some big swings… We’re talking about a number of different ways to go. It is ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths,’ and if you know the history, things collapse.”
“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” famously sat out the 2018 crossover and asked if it would return for the next one, he says he didn’t know yet but he hopes so. Not asked, but highly likely is that the crossover will result in the incorporation of “Supergirl” into the same version of Earth as that in which all the other DC shows take place.
With a “Batwoman” series also in the works for next season, bringing the total to six DC Comics-inspired shows on The CW, Pedowitz believes there’s still room for more: “We haven’t hit that saturation point in my mind… Things will age and we want to get the next generation of shows to keep The CW DC universe going for as long as possible.”
