CW Picks Up ‘Sex’ Prequel “Carrie Diaries”

The CW has picked up “The Carrie Diaries”, a TV series based on “Sex and the City” author Candace Bushnell’s recent book about Carrie Bradshaw’s high school years reports Deadline.

The young-adult novel chronicles Carrie’s senior year of high school in a small New England town. Warner Bros. TV is producing the project and is nailing down a deal that will allow the writers to incorporate characters, traits and developments introduced on HBO’s “Sex and the City” along with the core source material from Bushnell’s book.

“Gossip Girl” executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will produce while former ‘Sex’ writer Amy Harris will pen the adaptation and executive produce. Neither Sarah Jessica Parker or Darren Star are attached to the new project.
