John Curran (“The Painted Veil,” “We Don’t Live Here Anymore”) is set to direct the period drama “The Beautiful and the Damned” for Film Department reports Variety.
Hanna Weg’s script concerns the turbulent marriage of alcoholic “The Great Gatsby” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” author F. Scott Fitzgerald and his mercurial and schizophrenic wife Zelda Sayre.
The tempestuous relationship, which unfolded in the high society of the Roaring ’20s, inspired some of the novelist’s works. Keira Knightley will play Sayre.
Nick Cassavetes was previously attached to direct but departed the project last year, Lance Sloane, Devin Sloane, Mark Gill and Robert Katz are producing.
Shooting begins in March.
