Cruise & Liman’s “Mena” Gets New Title, Date

Universal Pictures, Imagine Entertainment and Cross Creek have announced that once again a Tom Cruise-led and Doug Liman-directed feature is getting a name change.

The pair previously worked together on the acclaimed sci-fi feature “Edge of Tomorrow” which originally went by the name “All You Need is Kill”. Now their second pairing, originally titled “Mena,” has scored a new title – “American Made”.

The story is based on the real-life exploits of Barry Seal, a hustler and pilot unexpectedly recruited by the CIA in the 1980s to run one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. history.

Along with a new title, the film has also been pushed back nine months – originally slated to open January 6th 2017, it is now slated for a September 29th 2017 release. That has it opening against “The Equalizer” sequel and one week before the “Blade Runner” sequel.

Brian Grazer, Brian Oliver, Tyler Thompson, Doug Davison, and Kim Roth are producing.
