Cruise Joins Singer’s WW2 Project

A few days after United Artists picked up Bryan Singer’s untitled WW2 thriller, UA’s new co-runner Tom Cruise has jumped on-board as its star says the trades.

Scripted by Christopher McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander, the story is based on actual events about a plot by German generals to assassinate Adolf Hitler at the height of World War II.

Cruise did not intend to star in the project, but after Singer offered Cruise the role the star signed on Tuesday. Production is scheduled to begin early this summer with MGM set to release the project next year.

The filmmakers also says the untitled project should not interfere with Singer’s mounting of a sequel to “Superman Returns” for Warner Bros. Pictures scheduled to begin shooting around this time next year.
