Billy Crudup will play FBI director J. Edgar Hoover in the Michael Mann-directed crime drama “Public Enemies” for Universal Pictures reports Variety.
The film, which is currently shooting, follows the FBI’s manhunt for notorious criminal John Dillinger (Johnny Depp).
Hoover famously ran the FBI for nearly five decades right up until his death in 1972. His reign encompassed Prohibition, the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, and the Vietnam War.
Stephen Lang has also joined the cast playing Texas Rangers leader Winstead. Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Stephen Dorff, Channing Tatum, David Wenham and Giovanni Ribisi also star.
