The changing nature of film distribution just took another step in a new direction with this announcement. Video streaming giant Netflix has acquired the rights to The Weinstein Company produced, highly anticipated upcoming sequel “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend”.
The film will score a simultaneous release on both its streaming service and in selected global IMAX theaters on August 28th 2015. Yuen Wo-Ping helms the follow-up which stars Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen.
The project, currently shooting in New Zealand, is the first of several major films the company plans to premiere on the same day on the SVOD service and in select IMAX theaters globally.
