“Fruitvale Station” and “Creed” director Ryan Coogler is reportedly being pursued to direct the in the works “Black Panther” movie at Marvel Studios says Heroic Hollywood.
“Selma” director Ava DuVernay was originally offered the project but passed, “Straight Outta Compton” director F. Gary Gray was a contender as well until he opted to shoot “Fast and Furious 8” instead.
At last report the studio was waiting on a finished script before going out to directors, with Joe Robert Cole said to be nearing a deal to pen said script, but it looks as if Coogler could be onboard before that happens and thus could have input in the script.
Coogler is reportedly willing to do big commercial fare and early word on “Creed” is strong. The site says there’s no confirmation that even an offer has been made, but they feel safe saying Coogler is now Marvel’s top contender for the gig. The film itself opens February 16th 2018.
