Ryan Coogler’s “Creed” in 2015 showed how to do both a spin-off and a reboot right. The continuation of the “Rocky” franchise boasted energy, freshness and a compelling new story whilst still nodding its cap toward the legacy of the earlier films.
With the inevitable sequel on the way, Sylvester Stallone has been at work on the screenplay and has been hinting of a tie-in to the events of “Rocky IV” – the film in which Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) killed Apollo Creed.
Now, Stallone has made the connection explicit, telling TMZ this week that the film: “wouldn’t be a party without Drago would it? I’m gonna punch him. You know I gotta hit Drago once.”
Stallone has previously stated that the current draft in his scrapbook comes in at 439 pages which will translate to “a 120 page typed screenplay.” Lundgren’s Drago famously only had four lines of dialogue in the original, if the actor does return we can probably expect more than that this time out.
“Creed 2” doesn’t have a start date yet, mostly due to the delay in regards to Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther” commitments.
