“Wedding Crashers” director David Dobkin is set to helm and produce a reboot of the 1983 comedy classic “National Lampoon’s Vacation” says Heat Vision Blog.
The original road comedy followed the Griswold family as they took a gruelling cross-country road trip that led to all sorts of hilarious mishaps along the way. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo starred as the adult Griswolds across three sequels, the most recent being ‘Vegas Vacation’ in 1997.
The reboot will now follow the next generation of the family, lead by the grown up version of the son Rusty Griswold, a role played in the previous films by the likes of Anthony Michael Hall, Johnny Galecki and Ethan Embry. Rusty is now taking his own family on a similar road trip as the one he took as a young teenager.
Though the new film will reference the original, it’s not sure what elements or cast will return while the ‘National Lampoon’ title will not be involved either. Chase and D’Angelo could make appearances as grandparents however. Writers are being met with shortly to develop the idea into a screenplay.
