“Spartacus: Blood and Sand” actor Jai Courtney has landed a major role in Christopher McQuarrie’s adaptation of the Lee Child novel “One Shot” at Paramount Pictures reports Deadline.
Tom Cruise plays former military police officer Jack Reacher who looks into the case of a sniper arrested for murdering five random people at a mall. Australian actor Courtney plays a highly trained sniper who is motivated to stop Reacher. Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo also star.
Meanwhile Child himself has spoken out about the online backlash against the casting of Tom Cruise in the role. The character of Reacher is 6′ 5″ tall, 250 pounds, blond-haired, blue-eyed and able to kill a man with a single punch – quite different to the 5’7″ brunette Cruise.
Child tells Empire that “Cruise doesn’t match the physical description of Reacher in the books… but the movie is not going to match the book anyway. More than that though, which actor does match Reacher physically? What people forget is that Tom Cruise is quite possibly the best actor of his generation.”
He goes on to say “If you look at what McQuarrie and Cruise have done before, I think this Reacher will be more clinical – the scapel rather than the sledgehammer. I think fans of the books will go to the movie and be a little weirded out for the first five minutes, but then the question is, what will happen after the first five minutes? If it’s as done as well as I hope it will be, I don’t think it will be a problem.”
Finally the first photos of Tom Cruise on the set of the production have been posted at Celeb Buzz:
