Superhero costumes aren’t all they are cracked up to be, in fact many of them are a pain in the ass to get on.
A new Fashionista article covering the costumes of superheroes includes information about Ben Affleck’s Batsuit in next year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”. It turns out Affleck takes 25 minutes to get into the get-up, and that’s with help. Costume designer Michael Wilkinson says:
“It does involve multiple costumers… [It’s] not the sort of thing that I could just sit in Ben’s trailer and he gets into it himself. It’s a six-handed operation…. It’s a very important thing to Zack that the Batsuit would be comfortable and very flexible but then would be able to perform in a very natural and forceful way”
The new Batsuit means Affleck can turn his head easily, and a “lot of incredible engineering went into the development of the new black cowl.” Wilkinson adds that he’s keen to get audience feedback on the result: “It’s no longer a designer in his workroom pushing a costume out into the world and that’s it. There’s a real sense of conversation and engaging in a dialogue about this stuff.”
