Kevin Costner is a key part of a world rights deal with Atria Books for the serialized and illustrated adventure novel series “The Explorers Guild” says Deadline.
Costner is producing and developing the book series with writer and art director Jon Baird, and illustrator Rick Ross. He’s aiming to transfer the property to multiple platforms including a feature film that he will star in and produce.
The story follows a clandestine group of adventurers who seek out mythical realms in our world in the most remote places.
Set against the backdrop of WWI, the first book revolves around the quest to find the mythic Buddhist city of Shambhala (the same quest seen in Sony’s highly acclaimed video game “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves”).
