Sofia Coppola (“Lost in Translation,” “The Bling Ring”) will no longer direct “The Little Mermaid” live-action film at Universal Pictures and Working Title.
Coppola has departed the movie due to creative differences. Coppola met with producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner recently in London and casting is already well underway on the film.
Caroline Thompson wrote the script for this story of a mermaid who gives up her life in the sea after she falls in love with a prince.
The studio is still said to be keen to move forward with the project and keep it on track.
