Cooper To Direct & Star In Bernstein Biopic

Just days after word broke that Jake Gyllenhaal is teaming with Cary Fukunaga on a biopic about “West Side Story” composer Leonard Bernstein, word of a rival project has sprung up with some impressive talent involved as well.

Deadline reports that actor Bradley Cooper has decided to direct and star in a new Leonard Bernstein film at Paramount Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, a film that has both Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese attached as producers after both previously flirting with directing it years ago.

“Spotlight” co-writer Josh Singer is penning the script about the musical genius, and Cooper will also work with Singer on a revised script. Fred Berner, Amy Durning, and Kristie Macosko Krieger are also producing.
