Condon To Helm Disney’s Live-Action “Beauty”

Disney continues its plans to produce live-action re-imaginings of all its animated back catalogue with Bill Condon (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn,” “Dreamgirls”) signing on to direct their live-action re-interpretation of “Beauty and the Beast” for the studio.

The film follows the likes of “Alice in Wonderland,” “Oz: The Great and Powerful” and “Maleficent” which have all proven to be big box-office successes. At least three more such adaptations are in the works including ‘Beast’, Kenneth Branagh’s “Cinderella” due out next year, and a live-action take on “The Jungle Book” currently in development.

Condon’s name has been linked to the project for several months, but now it is finally confirmed. The filmmaker is currently prepping “A Slight Trick of the Mind” in which his “Gods and Monsters” star Ian McKellen plays a retired Sherlock Holmes who tries to solve one last case before he loses his keen mental faculties.
