Compton Scribe Pens “Ghost in the Shell”

“Straight Outta Compton” scribe Jonathan Herman has been brought onboard to do an overhaul of the script for “Ghost in the Shell” at DreamWorks Pictures.

The live-action film adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s famed anime and manga franchise, Scarlett Johansson stars as a special ops cyborg who leads an elite task force called Section 9 for Hanka Robotics.

Said section’s mandate is to stop the most dangerous criminals and extremists, led by The Laughing Man, whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka’s advancements in cyber technology. William Wheeler and Jamie Moss wrote previous drafts.

Rupert Sanders will direct the project which is scheduled to go into production in New Zealand early next year ahead of a March 31st 2017 release. Ari Arad, Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing.

Herman has also worked on the remakes of “Scarface” and “The Birds” at Universal.
